How It HappenedÂ
  Seniors
Rebekka Dill,
Mary Wieszczek,
Anni Winogradoff,
Maria De La Torre,
Lillian Torbeck,
Abigail Walters, and manager Mya Rodriguez were all honored pre-game for their dedication and devotion to the team. All of the seniors started the game in the women's soccer senior day 2024. That unit hummed their way to a nine goal commanding victory.
Dexter got off to a quick start scoring two goals in seven minutes to start the game. Her first goal came after a turnover in the midfield. Dexter took a long ball from Parker before netting the games first goal. Her second goal showcased this team's unification and selflessness.
Elise Winogradoff fired off a shot from 10 yards out. The keeper dove to make the save which deflected wide left to an uncovered Wieszczek on the left side of the net a few yards from the end line. Wieszczek has seen limited minutes since conference play began and has three career goals and 16 career shots. Dexter records almost that many shots in a game. Yet, instead of seizing an opportunity to get a goal for herself, she passes the ball across the front of the net to a streaking Dexter who just has to tap it in for her second goal of the game. Mary's shot was wide open, not guaranteed, but would most likely have gone in, and in a game that was heavily favored to be a resounding Baron victory, but she valued the team success more. A veteran selfless decision that culminates the women's program culture and team dynamic.Â
Late in the match, two freshmen had their opportunities to net their first career goals. Freshmen Mary Grace Geurkink took the field in the 70'. She gathered a rebound off a
Brenna Pereira shot and netted her first career goal to extend the Baron lead to 8-0 in the 77'. Then just a five minutes later, fellow freshmen
Rhoswen Elmore netted her first collegiate goal to wrap up Franciscan scoring of nine goals on the game.
Inside the Numbers Â
-Dill recorded one save
-The Barons recorded 7 assists on their 9 goals (O'Leary, Pereira, R. Elmore, Parker, Wieszczek, Dexter, and E. Winogradoff)
-Dexter's hat-trick is the second of the season and her career
Who's Next?Â
Franciscan remains at home to take on Grove City on Wednesday evening. The Barons are 2-4-1 all-time against the Wolverines, as this will be the first time they square off since the 2023 PAC Championship. Gabrielle De La Torre scored a pair of goals, including the first of the game, but that would not be enough. The Wolverines scored a pair on each half to take the Championship. Grove City sits atop the standings this season with 14 points through five conference games.Â
