How It Happened
Saint Vincent came to Steubenville for a pivotal PAC conference matchup at Finnegan Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon in Steubenville. After splitting the first two sets, the Bearcats sneaked out a pair of wins in the final two sets to win today's match. Gabrielle Disselkamp led all players with 19 kills and a .514 attack percentage.

Franciscan controlled the opening half of the first set, as they held a 12-10 edge after a pair of kills from Disselkamp. Saint Vincent regained the lead with a 4-0 run and did not look back. They stretched the lead up to five at 22-17, but Franciscan answered. A 5-1 Franciscan run with a pair of kills from Sweeney pulled them to within one at 23-22. The Bearcats scored two points in a row to close out the opening set.

In the second set, the score was 2-2 before the Barons would score five in a row. Angela Sweeney had a pair of kills in that run to give the Barons all the early momentum. The Bearcats clawed back in it to pull within two at 9-7. Disselkamp took charge with four kills in a 5-0 run to take a commanding lead of 14-7. She added four more kills throughout the set to have eight of Franciscan's 18 en route to a 25-18 win to level the match at 1-1.

Franciscan seemed to be in total control in the fourth. Sarah Clyde had three kills and several other Barons added kills to give Franciscan an 18-9 edge. The Bearcats started to chip away at that lead, but the Barons still held control with a lead of 23-20 after a kill from Disselkamp. A Bearcats' 3-0 run that included a pair of aces tied this set at 23-23. The Bearcats seized the momentum and controlled the action the rest of the way to take this set..

It was all St. Vincent to start the fourth set, as they took a 12-3 lead. Coach Jen Hickey rallied the troops, as the Barons answered quickly. A 13-3 run by Franciscan tied this set up at 16-16, to liven up the home faithful. It was anyone's game, as the score was 22-21 late, but the Bearcats seized the opportunity with a 3-1 run to close out the match.
