How It Happened
After their doubleheader with Christendom was canceled this week, the Barons were able to pick up an extra game with Stevenson on Friday to open up their season in Maryland.
The Barons would put up a crooked number in the first inning with just one hit. Ashcraft, Falconite, and Stoehr all drew walks before Armstrong delivered a two-out, two RBI single to score Ashcraft and Falconite. The Mustangs would put up a crooked number of their own in the home half of the first to take the lead.
Franciscan would respond with more two-out offense in the second. Ashcraft picked up his first collegiate hit with a single, and then Bodie reached base on a walk. Falconite would then rip a double to score Ashcraft.Â
Unfortunately, some defensive miscues would lead to 10 unearned runs for the Mustangs, as they would be in total control of this one the rest of the way.
At the Plate
- Ashcraft and Falconite each had two hits.Â
- Armstrong had two RBIs.
- The Mustangs had 18 hits.
On the Mound Â
-
Andrew Heidemann made his first collegiate start. He threw 87 pitches through 3.2 innings while striking out two.
-Â Â Five relief pitchers would be used to finish the game.
-
Shae Mummey pitched a scoreless inning despite walking three.
Up NextÂ
The Barons remain in Maryland for two games tomorrow against the Mustangs. The first game is scheduled to start at noon, as long as the weather cooperates.
