How It Happened
Franciscan made their longest trip of the year over Spring Break to Brevard College in North Carolina for a game on Thursday afternoon. The Barons would keep up their stellar play with a win over the Tornadoes to extend their win streak to three.
Seven different Barons would score at least one goal in the opening half, as a balanced attack on offense with sound defense would give the Barons another great start. The Barons would score nine in a row to start this game with three coming from Samuel Marshall. After one goal from Brevard, Gavin Cook and Joseph James would add late goals to set the score at 11-1 after the first quarter. Brevard would score a couple early goals in the second quarter, but the Barons would put together their offense later in the quarter. They scored five goals in the final five minutes to take a 17-3 lead into the second half. James Masso and Samuel Marshall each scored four goals in the first 30 minutes of play.
Brevard would bet more on the attack in the third quarter, and Richard Vale II would be ready for the test. He had six saves in the first half, and he added six more in the third quarter alone. James would add two more goals, and Cook added another, as the Barons won the third by a score of 3-1 to expand the lead. Four more goals in the fourth by the Barons and one by the Tornadoes would give us the finals score of 24-5. With the win, Richard Vale II picks up his fifth win of the season and is now the all-time wins leader in Franciscan history.
