How It Happened
This would be one of the best games at Vacarro Field over the years, as the Barons would take down Bethany in 11 innings. It would not be a walkoff tough, as the Bison would serve as the home team in the game that was originally supposed to be in West Virginia.
Bethany would strike first, in the first with an RBI double. The Barons would answer in the second with an RBI single from Armstrong. Then the Bethany starter would be removed due to injury, as they brought in Trey Mantle. He would walk in a run to give Franciscan a 2-1 edge, but then he would be nearly perfect. Mantle would go 7.1 innings of relief with just earned run. That earned run came in the ninth with the Bison leading 3-2. Falconite and Stoehr would single, but then with two outs,
John Hall delivered an RBI single to left to score Falconite.
Sebastian Juarez would continue where
Jonathan Perez left off with three scoreless relief innings. Then in the 11th,
Samuel Tyler would rip an RBI double to score Armstrong and give Franciscan a 4-3 lead. Head Coach
Rick Carver would then go to
Wade Stoehr for the save, and he shut the door with a 1,2,3 inning to send Franciscan into a frenzy.
At the Plate
- Tyler's lone hit was a game-winning double.
- Armstrong and Peffer each had two hits.
- Bethany's Zupko was a triple shy of the cycle
On the Mound
-
Jonathan Perez had his longest collegiate start with 7.0 innings and two earned runs.
-
Sebastian Juarez earned his first win with three scoreless innings.
-
Wade Stoehr picked up his second save of the season.

How It Happened
Game two would also be a thriller for the home faithful that stuck it out through the chilly and breezy conditions.
The early story of this game would be
Peter Cavalieri. He would have the Bethany hitters fooled with his large breaking ball that would lead to a career-high in strikeouts for the freshman. The offense would breakout as well.
Wade Stoehr got it going with a three-RBI double to the warning track in center to give Franciscan a 3-0 lead. A lead that they would not relinquish.
After a run from the Bison in the fourth,
Samuel Tyler delivered a two-run single in the fifth to add some insurance. Armstrong and Ashcraft would each knock in a run in the sixth and seventh to give a 7-3 lead to the Barons.
It would be a 9-5 game heading into the ninth. The Barons would bring in their closer,
Wade Stoehr, and after his efficient save in game one, it felt like this one was over. The Bison had different ideas. A pair of errors would lead to two men on and two outs. Three straight singles would plate three runs and make this a 9-8 game. Stoehr remained poised, as he would strikeout McKee looking to end it and give Franciscan the sweep.
This would be the second sweep for
Rick Carver against his former team, as they Barons were able to sweep them in Bethany in 2021.
