How It Happened
Franciscan played at Hiram for the first time in program history on Saturday,  and it was a PAC match against the Terriers, who are new to the PAC this season. Logan Hickey led the Barons with 16 kills, but three Terrriers had 16 or more kills to lead the opposition to the win. Kaitlan Hickey had 45 digs, as she broke the program record for digs in a four-set match.

The Barons controlled the beginning of the first set. Several attack errors from the Terriers helped the Barons take a 9-4 lead. After a Hiram timeout, they answered with a 7-0 run to take the lead and force Coach Jen Hickey to call a timeout of her own. The Barons responded to take the lead at 14-13 and held onto that lead the rest of the way. Cadman led the offense with three kills in the second half of the set to take the opening set at Hiram.

Hiram answered in the second set, as they came out with a 9-3 lead in the second set. After a Franciscan timeout, a 7-1 run enabled the Barons to tie it up at 10-10. The Barons were not able to take the lead, as Maggie Riley added four kills in a five-point stretch to give Hiram a commanding lead. Hiram had 19 kills in the set to win 25-20.

Heisler and Cadman each had a kill to give Franciscan a 2-0 edge in the third, but a 6-0 run by the home team gave them a lead that they did not relinquish. The Barons made a late run behind a handful of kills from Hickey and Clyde to set the score at 23-21. The Terriers tallied two points in a row to take the third set.

The Terriers rode that momentum into fourth set. A couple of runs by Hiram gave them control of the fourth. Clyde had a trio of kills in the set, but the Terriers were able to end the match on a 5-0 run.

- Smart had 37 set assists, the second-most she has had in a match this season.

- Hiram had 64 kills, the most allowed by the Barons this season.

Up Next
Franciscan returns home to take on Chatham on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. This will be their second match against the Cougars this season. In September, the Cougars won in four sets on their home court. This match was very close and back-and-forth, as Franciscan won the first set, and then barely lost the remaining three. Chatham has played well since that match and are atop the PAC South standings.
