How It HappenedÂ
The 2024 PAC Championship rematch is here. The Barons traveled to Grove City, Pa to take on the Wolverines that they beat in last year's championship match in Steubenville. This time, the Wolverines defeated the Barons 2-4 taking advantage of the home field. They had a clear cut strategy to prevent
Lucas Cross from having any impact. Cross took on the heightened focus and pressure to help setup his teammates. Both Goduti and Venditti walked away with goals, but the Wolverines fired an offensive barrage at the Barons. The shot differential fed into the score differential. Double the shots equaled double the goals.Â
The loss drops the Barons to one point behind the Wolverines in PAC standings. They still hold a four point lead and tiebreaker over the 3rd place St. Vincent Bearcats, so this matchup is trending toward a showdown in the 2025 PAC Championship. The Barons have just begun playing through the toughest part of the league. With #4 Hiram, #5 Allegheny, #6 Geneva, and #7 Waynesburg still on the books anything could happen for playoff standings. With 18 PAC points, a win on Saturday has the possibility to clinch a playoff berth. From this point on we will be tracking playoff clinch and possible seeding scenarios with each game recap.
By the Numbers
- the Barons were out shot 30-11
- Miller made 3 saves
Who's Next?
Franciscan returns home for four consecutive games at Trinity Health System Field to conclude the regular season. They will host Waynesburg on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. The Barons are 11-5-1 all-time against the Yellow Jackets. They had won nine in a row until a 1-1 tie last season. It was a defensive battle with a pair of second half goals, including the equalizer by Waynesburg in the 81st minute. The Yellow Jackets are holding onto one of the final playoff spots at the moment, as they have a winning record and have had a good season so far.Â
