Starting XI
Catherine DeWolf, Elise Doyle, Teaghan Elmore, Bella Urso, Isabella Corley, Felicity Igot, Abigail Parker, Kierra Wilson, Brenna Pereira, Abby Measor, & Goalkeeper - Callie Giguere
How It Happened
The Barons honored six seniors before their tilt against the conference newcomers Hiram college Terriers. Those seniors are
Teaghan Elmore,
Kierra Wilson,
Brenna Pereira,
Abby Measor, and
Carolyn Ososkie. Ososkie saw time in net for the final minutes of the game while the party of Elmore, Wilson, and Pereira all enjoyed scoring a goal on their senior day.
The Barons entered the match in another must win scenario to stay in the playoff picture. It's a lot of pressure for a young team, but the seniors stepped up and scored four goals to keep the playoff hopes alive. The team has created a culture of resilience this season. There have been multiple games this season this has been tested and Saturday it was tested more than ever. The nerves of a season drawing to an end and having to win to keep the season alive against a talented Hiram team would have been enough, but the Terriers scoring the first goal in the 8' added more than enough nerves to the situation. Thankfully, that resilience came through. The Barons answered with two goals of their own in the 11' and 17' minute to take the lead. Elmore's second goal ended up as the game-winner and her second game-winner last week.
With a big lead in the second half, the Barons did not let up a bit. They stayed on the attack and prevented any offensive opportunity for the Terriers.
Now with one game remaining in the regular season, the Barons are sitting in 6th place and are in control of their own destiny. Thanks to a Geneva loss on Saturday, they sit one point above them. With Geneva as their final game all they need to do is avoid a loss and they are PAC playoff bound.
Inside the Numbers
- The Barons didn't allow a single shot in the second half
- O'Leary's goal is her first of the season and the seventh Baron to net a goal this year
Who's Next?
Franciscan remains at home to conclude the regular season against Geneva on Wednesday. The Barons are 6-9-1 all-time against the Golden Tornadoes. Last season, the fell to them 4-0, but last time they came to Steubenville, the Barons won 5-0.
