How It Happened
Franciscan hosted Washington & Jefferson on Tuesday evening in Steubenville.
Logan Hickey led the Barons with 21 kills, but the Presidents were able to win in four close sets.
The Barons controlled the opening set in the early going.
Logan Hickey had a pair of kills in part of a 6-1 run that gave the Barons the lead. The Barons held a 12-9 edge, but then the Presidents scored nine in a row to take all the momentum and a commanding six-point lead. A pair of aces by Quinn cut it to a two-point set at 23-21, but W&J was able to fend off Franciscan.
Set two started with W&J in control. They held the lead all the way till 18-18 for the first tie of the set.
Caroline Linklater and
Mary Jean Cadman added kills to give the Barons the lead, but the Presidents kept battling. After a pair of
Logan Hickey kills, the Barons held a 23-22 edge. Three straight points from the visitors clinched the set for the Presidents.
The Barons would not be swept, as they came out firing on all cylinders in the third. With the score tied at five, a 4-0 run gave the Barons a lead that they did not relinquish. Clyde and Cadman led the offense this set, as they had several timely kills to maintain momentum and keep the strong crowd in it. They won the set by a score of 25-20.
The Presidents came out clicking in the fourth with a 6-1 run to start the set. Franciscan was not discouraged, as they slowly chipped into the deficit. Behind five more kills from
Logan Hickey, the Barons were able to tie it up at 15-15. Back-and-forth action ensued with the score tied four more times, but the Barons were not able to take the lead. W&J closed out the set 25-21.

Up Next
Franciscan returns to action at Hiram on Saturday for their first PAC match against them. This will be only their second match against the Terriers, with the other matchup coming 10 years ago. The Terriers have made their presence known as the first-year PAC institution is atop the PAC North standings.
