How It Happened
The Barons were on the road as the #5 seed facing the #4 seed Chatham Cougars for the quarterfinals of the PAC women's soccer championship. The Barons defense kept the Cougars from coming anywhere near the penalty box which resulted in only four shots on goal allowed. Meanwhile the Chatham goalkeeper had to everything short of back flips to keep the Barons from scoring as the Barons tallied up nine shots on goal.
The defensive stalemate lasted the entirety of regulation. Now that we are in post season play, we get to see the beauty that is overtime soccer. In the first overtime period, the Barons prevented a single shot by the Cougars. In the second overtime, the Cougars managed to slip one shot off late in the period which Giguere saved.
After 110 minutes of a defensive standoff, the teams entered into a shootout. The Baron shooters were DeWolf, Pereira,
Teaghan Elmore, Doyle, and Wilson. DeWolf led the shootout off by making her kick. Chatham missed, then Pereira missed, then Chatham missed again before Elmore made her kick and put the Barons up 2-0 in the shootout. After that there was a string of PKs made. Chatham finally made their first PK, Doyle made the Barons third, then Chatham made another to put the score to 3-2. Wilson was up next for the Barons, but since the Barons went first if she missed the Cougars would have a chance to send their fifth shooter out and tie it up. Wilson never gave them a chance. She lined up and sank her PK to clinch the shootout and send the Barons on to the semifinals.
Here is what coach Miller had to say about the women's performance: "[I am] super proud of each and every one of the girls and their efforts. Not only today, but in the days leading up to the game. We were super prepared to play and followed our game plan to a tee. I felt like we had much better of the play especially in the second half and had chances to score but couldn't do so. But, we stayed composed and kept our cool in the penalty kick shootout. Overall, super happy with everyone. We aren't done yet, and we aren't satisfied yet. Go Barons!"
Inside the Numbers
- Giguere made 4 saves in the shutout
- Teaghan had a game-high 6 shots and 3 SOG
- 7 of the 11 Baron starters played the entire 110 minutes

They are winners of nine straight, but the Barons have beat them in the PAC Semifinal once before.
