How It Happened
Franciscan made the trip south to Marietta on Wednesday evening to take on the Pioneers in a tough, non-conference test. The Pioneers were hungry for their first win of the season, as they came out firing on all cylinders in the opening quarter. Theresa Lyle scored the lone Baron goal of the first quarter, but the Barons trailed 11-1 after 15 minutes. The second quarter was much slower with turnovers both ways and less quality looks. Just one goal was scored, as Marietta tacked on that goal. Kiera Wilson and Annie Lewis added Franciscan goals in the second half, but the Barons were not able to overcome the large deficit.
Inside the Numbers
- Newman had six ground balls and caused three turnovers.
- Smith had three saves in goal.
- Pinsonault had eight draw controls, as the Barons won 12 of the 23 draw controls.
- The Barons went 0-6 on free-position shots.
Up Next
The Barons return to action at home on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. against Ohio Wesleyan. The Barons are in search of their first win all-time against the Battling Bishops, as they fell to them last season by a score of 21-7. Ohio Wesleyan has beaten one PAC school in non-conference play, as they beat Allegheny 19-5 to start the 2025 season.
