How It Happened
Franciscan Men's Lacrosse headed south for spring break, as they took on Virginia Wesleyan in Virginia Beach on Tuesday evening. The Marlins struck first with a goal one minute into this one. They held the lead for one minute, and then Ayden Burke scored his first goal of two goals today. Franciscan held the lead or the game was tied for the entirety of regulation. Virginia natives, Joseph James and Nathaniel Carter each scored to stretch the lead to 3-1 before the Marlins netted one at the end of the opening quarter. James scored a pair in the second quarter, including a power play goal, as the Barons led 5-4 at halftime.
Dominic Scordino joined the scoring column in the third quarter, as he scored three in this quarter. Virginia Wesleyan scored three as well, and the Barons led by one goal heading into the fourth quarter. Burke scored in the early going of the final quarter, as the Barons appeared to be in total control up 9-7. The Marlins answered with two goals to tie it up with five minutes left. After a caused turnover and clear from Sam Smith, the Barons took the lead on a goal from Gavin Williams. with four minutes left in regulation. James prevented several shots from going into the net, but the Marlins were able to score with one minute left and tie this one up at 10-10. Each team had a look in overtime, but then the Marlins struck on a counter-attack to score on a one on one scenario to earn the home win.

Up Next
Franciscan will return to the Ohio Valley to take on Muskingum on Saturday in a non-conference test. The Barons are 1-5 all-time against the Fighting Muskies, including a 19-8 loss last season in Steubenville. Joseph James scored four goals in that matchup while Gavin Cook added a pair of goals in last season's meeting.
