How It Happened
Coming into this matchup, Muskingum was receiving votes in the D3baseball.com Top 25 and held a 13-1 record. The Barons were not intimidated, as they had an offensive explosion to hand the Fighting Muskies their second loss of 2025.
The action started in the first, as the Barons plated five runs on four hits. Falconite drove one in on a double, and Stoehr drove in a pair with a double, as the bats were working early and often. Muskingum answered quickly with six runs in the top of the second to take the lead and flip the momentum.
Harold Gildehaus helped gain that momentum back for the Barons, as the reliever was prolific. He pitched 3.1 innings of scoreless work with just over 50 pitches which sparked the Barons.
Ashcraft drove in a pair in the third to give Franciscan the lead back at 7-6. Fusco then had an RBI walk in the fourth for some insurance, and the Barons would not relinquish the lead the rest of the day. The Barons put up crooked numbers in the sixth, seventh, and eighth, as the offense was relentless.
In the eighth, the Fighting Muskies were able to cut it to a three-run game. Coach
Rick Carver answered with his closer
Wade Stoehr, who got the final four outs and earned his first save of the season.
