How It Happened
It would take 11 innings, for the second time at Vaccaro Field this season, to decide a winner. Unfortunately, Franciscan was on the losing end this time.
La Roche took a 2-0 lead off of the Franciscan starter
Jacob Cole in the first inning. Ferroni drove in the first run of the day on a sacrifice fly to cut into the lead in the second. The Redhawks made it 3-1 with a solo shot in the third, as that was just the first of four home runs for them today.
Hunton then tied it up at 3-3 with a two-RBI single in the third. The Redhawks regained the lead in the fourth, as they seemed to be in control as they went to the bullpen. Trailing by one, Head Coach
Rick Carver went to his bench in the fifth for a pinch hitter.
Colin Killian came through in a big way with a two-RBI double to take the lead. Ferroni then made it a a 6-4 Franciscan lead, as we headed to the sixth inning.
In that sixth inning, a two-run blast tied it up at 6-6. Stoehr answered for Franciscan in the home half of the inning to give them an 8-6 lead. In the seventh, a two-run homer tied this one up to send us to extra innings.
The 8th, 9th, and 10th innings were all scoreless. In the 11th, La Roche was able to tally three runs and take a lead that they did not relinquish.
