How It Happened
With bad weather looming in the forecast, the Barons went on the road to face Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats in hopes of squeezing in a couple games before the weather hit. Thankfully, both the weather and the Barons held off in the 9th inning for the Barons to win 7-6.
The Barons had a great start to game 1 with Franzonello walking, a lead off single from Bodie, followed by a single from Stoehr to load the bases. Hunton was then walked which advanced Franzonello home and the Barons first run. Fusco followed up with making contact and reaching off a fielders choice. The Bobcats chose to throw Stoehr out at third allowing Bodie to score.
The Bobcats tied the game up in the bottom fo the 3rd and then took the lead in the 4th. The Barons finally answered those runs in the 5th with a run off a double from Bodie who was then sent home by Fusco.
After a scoreless 6th inning, the Barons opened up a lead in the 7th scoring three runs. They scored one more in the top of the 9th to take a 7-3 lead. The defense had performed well all game, but in the bottom of the 9th allowed three runs. After a couple walks, Pitt-Greensburg's Smith hit a three run homer to vault the Bobcats back into the game and down only one. Thankfully, there were already two outs, so with no runners on base the Barons just had to get one more out to end the game. Franzonello came into the game in the 9th and after allowing the three run shot, he shook it off and the next Bobcat batter flied out to end the game and the Bobcat comeback.
Unfortunately, the weather didn't hold off long enough for game 2. With the storm rolling in game 2 was canceled and the Barons went home one win stronger.
