How It Happened
The Barons did not make it easy, but they were able to take care of business in game one to secure a massive conference win. Geneva held the lead for most of the game. They were ahead 4-2, as we headed into the bottom of the fifth inning. There,
Wade Stoehr delivered his first home run of the season. He then tied this one up at 4-4 with an RBI single in the seventh. Falconite then gave the Barons their first lead of the day later that inning with an RBI single.Â
In the eighth, the Golden Tornadoes scored a pair of runs with two outs on an error, as the Barons had four in this game. That did not rattle the Barons. Stoehr continued his strong day with a two-RBI single in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead. Ashcradt added insurance with a sacrifice fly to set the lead an 8-6. Stoehr got the final outs from the mound, as the Barons rejoiced to take game one.Â

How It Happened
Josiah Bodie hit his first career home run in the bottom of the first to give Franciscan a 2-0 lead, as it looked that Franciscan had maintained their momentum from the game one victory. The Golden Tornadoes answered with a run of their own in the second inning to cut the deficit in half. The Barons tacked on a run in the second and third to take a 4-1 lead.Â
Geneva had different plans, as they plated nine runs over the next four innings to take a 10-4 edge in the top of the seventh. In the bottom of the seventh, with two outs,
Peter Falconite delivered a three RBI triple right over the first base bag that cut the deficit in half. In the eighth, Fusco delivered the big swing, as he drove two in on a single to center field to set the score at 10-9, as we headed into the ninth.Â
For the second game in a row, Coach
Rick Carver went to his designated hitter,
Anthony Franzonello to pitch late in the game. He delivered a perfect ninth to keep it a one-run game.Â
In the bottom of the ninth, the first two batters got out quickly, and it was looking bleak with high winds and rain tearing throw Vaccaro Field. Peffer then singled to center to put his speed on the base paths. With the hit and run on, Franzonello reached first on an errant throw by the shortstop, and scoring was Peffer who flew around the bases to tie the game. Armstrong continued to put pressure on the defense, as he reached on an error by the third baseman to put runners at the corners with two outs. Bodie then delivered a sharp single to left to score Franzonello and secure the sweep for the Barons.Â
