How It HappenedÂ
Franciscan ended their busy weekend of three games at the Cedar Point Crossover early on Saturday morning. They fell to Concordia University of Chicago in four sets after winning the first set.
Caroline Linklater, in her first collegiate start, was a major offensive contributor in set one. She had three kills in the early going to help the Barons take a 16-10 lead.
Logan Hickey added two of her five kills in the first set down the stretch to secure this set, as her sister
Kaitlan Hickey served an ace for the 25th point.
Set two started out close, as it was 7-7, but then the Cougars made a 9-1 run to take a commanding lead in the set. Cadman and Hickey added a kill apiece late, but the Barons were not able to dig out of the hole, as the Cougars knotted the match up at 1-1.
Concordia continued to control the action in set three, as they held a seven-point lead at 17-10. The Barons did not quit, as a 3-0 run and a 4-0 run cut the deficit to just two. Of those seven points, four came from kills by freshman
Logan Hickey. The Cougars responded with a 4-1 run to take a 23-19 lead, and they held on to win the third set.
Set four was very close, as it was tied 12-12. A 3-0 Cougars run allowed them to be the first to fifteen points, and they did not look back. Hickey led the Barons with six kills in this set to give her the second 20+ kill performance of her young career. Cougars won the set 25-21 to take the match in four sets.
