How It HappenedÂ
There has been significant chatter around the offensive production to start the year. The level of play has steadily increased game over game, but in all of these closely contested games against high caliber opponents there was always one thing missing...offense.Â
Yesterday evening, the Barons wasted no time re-establishing the fact that they are indeed a good offensive team. Freshman
George Phillips made his second career start and wasted no time taking advantage of the opportunity. He scored in the 4' off a ball from Venditti.Â
The Barons held that goal advantage for sixty minutes, but the Pioneers broke through in the 64' to tie the game. However, we wasted no time answering back and retaking the lead.
Lucas Cross netted his second goal of the season on a free kick sent by Muldoon. The one goal lead and only 10 minutes remaining in play meant little chance for the hosting team to break through the Baron line. For the first time, the Barons leave Marietta, Ohio; Vctorious.
Inside the Numbers Â
- Miller made 5 savesÂ
- Goduti led the Barons in shots with 5
Who's Next?
Franciscan returns home on Wednesday to take on Mount Union in another tough, non-conference test. The Purple Raiders are regionally ranked and receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches National Top 25 poll from Week #1. They enter the matchup with the Barons holding a 4-0-1 record, including a pair of wins over PAC schools. They beat Waynesburg 2-1 and Hiram 1-0, as all of their games have been quite close. Their lone tie came at Translyvania by a score of 2-2. The Barons are in search of their first win over the Purple Raiders, as they are 0-2-1 all-time against them.Â
