How It Happened
The Barons began PAC play on Wednesday evening at Saint Vincent. The hosts were able to come out on top, but the Barons will get another chance against the Bearcats in Steubenville later this season.
It appeared Franciscan was in control of set one, as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead on
Molly Quinn's serve. The Barons led 8-5 after a
Sarah Clyde kill, but then a 5-0 run by the Bearcats transferred the lead. The Barons would not regain the lead, but it would be tied. At 10-10, the Bearcats went on a 6-0 run to take total control of the set. They won the opening set by a score of 25-19.
Tessa Miller had a pair of kills in the early going of set two, but the Barons were unable to break up their momentum from set one. Clyde added a pair of kills throughout the set, but 14 kills from the Bearcats allowed them to control the second set.
Set three had another strong start for the Bearcats, as they took a 15-10 edge, but the Barons kept fighting. They pulled within two before a 4-0 run by the home team gave Saint Vincent a 20-14 lead. Franciscan snapped the run and then went on a 7-0 run of their own to take the lead on
Logan Hickey's serve. The Barons went on to lead 23-22, but the Bearcats rallied three consecutive points to end the comeback attempt.
