How It Happened
Franciscan was able to make it five consecutive wins against Carlow and remain unbeaten at home this season with a four-set victory on Thursday night.
The Barons had a balanced offensive attack in the opening set with three different Barons having three kills.
Tessa Miller,
Logan Hickey, and
Caroline Linklater led the charge. The score was tied eight different times in this back-and-forth set, but the Barons prevailed.
Kaitlan Hickey had a pair of aces, including the set point to win 25-22.
Set two had a similar feel, as the score was tied nine times in this close set.
Angela Sweeney and
Caroline Linklater led the offensive attack with three kills apiece in this set.
Sarah Clyde found the set point on one of her eight emphatic kills.
The Barons sought their second consecutive home sweep, but the Celtics had different plans. The Celtics had 12 kills and made several big runs to keep the momentum and silence the home crowd. They won 25-19.
Clyde had a pair of early kills in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead and flip the momentum all the way back to the home team. The Barons stretched the lead up to eight points at 13-5. The Celtics did not quit, as they clawed all the way back to tie it up at 20-20. The freshman duo of Linklater and Hickey would not let a fifth set happen, as they provided the final four kills to secure the match.
