Giguere Shuts Out Bobcats

Franciscan 2, Pitt.-Greensburg 1

Starting XI
Catherine DeWolf, Elise Doyle, Teaghan Elmore, Eva Dexter, Isabella Corley, Felicity Igot, Abigail Parker, Kierra Wilson, Brenna Pereira, Abby Measor, & Goalkeeper - Callie Giguere

How It Happened
The Barons hosted the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats defeating them 2-1 and extend their home win-streak against the Bobcats to three. Initial thought; "how can it be a shut out if the opponents scored a goal?" Makes sense, and you'd be correct Callie technically did not earn a shutout having allowed a goal. However, she shut out the Bobcats, because their lone goal was an own goal off a misstep by a Baron defender, so no Bobcat scored on her.
Kierra Wilson scored the first goal of the night from the top left corner of the box. She put the ball up and over the goalkeeper to the top right of the net. The Baron's own goal came on a Bobcat breakaway. A Bobcat forward raced the ball up the right side of the box. She played the ball on the ground across the net looking for a teammate being chased down by DeWolf. The pass was just out of reach, but as it rolled by the Bobcat forward, DeWolf stuck her foot to try and block the potential shot. Instead, her blocking attempt became the first contact with the ball scoring against her teammate. This tie came in the 79', and the excitement for the potential first win of the season was draining as the field and fans began to expect the result of the match to end in a tie.
However, Catherine DeWolf got her first taste of scoring goals and wanted another, and preferably one that added to her teams score. The Barons earned a free kick just outside the box off the top left corner. This spot was just a few feet away from the spot Wilson scored the opening goal. DeWolf took the free kick and put the ball at the top right corner of the net, beautifully bending it from wide right to on goal. With the goalkeeper focused on the Barons rushing the net and predicting who would make contact and head it in, the ball sailed over her head and the Barons regained the lead. The Barons reclaimed the excitement from earlier in the evening and road that to victory.

Inside the Numbers
- DeWolf's game-winner is her first career goal
- Last night's win is the first win without a Dexter goal dating back to last year
- Giguere made six saves

Who's Next?
Franciscan will conclude non-conference play on Saturday, as they travel to Otterbein. The Barons are 1-0 all-time, as they beat them by a score of 1-0 last season. The Cardinals were receiving votes in the National Top 25 at the time, as that was their first loss of the season. Eva Dexter scored the lone goal in the 80th minute.
