North Division Matchup Ends Poorly

Franciscan 77, Grove City 62

Franciscan Starters
Sawyer Butler, Karl Yonkeu, Zach Oliver, Nathan Richards, Aiden Townsend

How It Happened
The Barons traveled to Grove City, Pa on Saturday to face the Grove City College Wolverines. A win in Grove City continues to be an elusive one for the Barons. In the history of Franciscan no basketball team has won in that gym.
This year marks the inaugural season the PAC switches to a two division organization for basketball. Franciscan is the PAC South division while Grove City is in the North. This means that this game will be the only time the Barons will face Grove City this regular season and will be another two years before they get another chance to take down the Wolverines in Grove City...maybe the last time this historic junior class has a chance to get a win in that gym.
The Barons jumped out to a hot start, but fell to 10 point deficit by halftime. That deficit was increased to almost 20 with just four minutes remaining. The Barons stormed back covering 10 points in that short of time, but still fell 10 points shy of a full comeback and lose their first north division game of the season.

Inside the Numbers
-Anthony Covetta led the Barons in shooting going 4-6 from 3pt
-the Barons shot a season worst 30% from the field
-the Barons rebounding margin was a season worst -17

Up Next
Franciscan will return home to take on Bethany on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. The Barons were able to sweep the Bison last season with a pair of victories, and this is the first of two meetings in 2026. Last season in Steubenville, the Barons won by a score of 81-74.
