How It HappenedÂ
Last night the Men's Soccer team hosted the St. Vincent Bearcats and walked away with a draw and one more PAC point. The Barons gave up two early goals before Venditti found an answer just before half and keeping the Barons in striking distance. At halftime, coach Ridenour was happy with the way the men were playing but stated, "the Bearcats are capitalizing on their opportunities and we're not". Early in the second half, the Bearcats capitalized on a breakaway and took a 3-1 lead.Â
Credit to the Barons for staying in the fight and not wavering after the third goal. They fought back and Goduti scored the Barons second goal and put them back in striking distance. Cabrera found the equalizer off a free kick from 30'. The Barons drew up a special play and Cabrera's kick rolled past the entire field before sneaking past the goalkeeper.
With back-to-back goals the Barons had all the momentum to find a fourth. Late in regulation they took a free kick and served it into the box trying to find
Christian Ludwig. Ludwig was hit from the side and knocked down before the ball arrived. Refs made no call and the Barons used the new official video review assist to challenge the call. The official took a few minutes to double check his call and chose to keep the call on the field denying the Barons a PK and potential game-winner.Â
