Franciscan women's volleyball moved its winning streak to three, securing a 3-0 sweep over the Bethany Bison Wednesday night. With the win, the Barons move to 9-5 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
How It Happened
The first set had the Barons head out to a 9-3 lead, before the hosts stormed back to get it to a 10-9 scoreline.
Tessa Miller,
Anna Guard, and
Logan Hickey each recorded kills early on. Up only one, the visitors scored nine straight to make it 18-9, as
Logan Hickey recorded two more kills and a service ace. The Bison could not close the gap, and the Barons scored six of the final eight points to win set one 25-13.
An early Bethany lead in set two was wiped away rather quickly, when the Barons went on a 8-2 run, thanks to kills by
Logan Hickey. Points would go back-and-forth, with the Bison retaking the lead at 17-15. Following that, Franciscan went on a 10-1 run, scoring the final nine points, with another trio of kills by
Logan Hickey to win the middle set.
Set three would be the most competitive, as neither team had a lead bigger than five, and there were three lead changes. A 7-4 Baron lead turned into a 10-7 lead for the hosts. The lead went up to 14-9 for Bethany, before the Barons scored six straight to go up 16-15. After a 16-16 tie, the visitors scored five of six to go up four. Bethany got it to within two, but two late kills by Guard slammed the door shut on any comeback.
