Franciscan women's volleyball kept its winning streak (and sweep streak) going, securing another 3-0 conference victory Friday night on the road against the Allegheny Gators. With the win, the Barons move to 10-5 overall and 3-0 in conference play.Â
How It HappenedÂ
The first set had the first seven points go back and forth, before the visiting Barons scored six straight to go up 9-4.
Sarah Clyde and
Logan Hickey each recorded some kills early on. Allegheny went on a run of its own to tie it at 10, followed by a 13-3 run for Franciscan, led by two service aces and six kills by the group of Hickey, Clyde,
Anna Guard,
Tessa Miller,
Caroline Linklater, and
Therese Heisler. After two Gator points, two attack errors by the hosts gave Franciscan a 1-0 set lead.
In set two, the visitors went ahead to a quick 6-1 lead, led by two kills by Miller. The Gators got it to within one at 8-7, but the hosts would never tie the set, and Franciscan went on a 15-4 run to be up 23-11. Kills by Miller and Linklater got the final two points Franciscan needed to win this set, 25-12.Â
Just like set two, Allegheny would never tie nor lead in set three. A 9-4 Franciscan advantage was soon turned into a slim 9-8 lead, but the Barons scored 11 of the next 13 points to go up 20-10. The hosts followed with a 8-2 run, before the visitors scored three of the final four to record its 10th sweep victory of the season.
