How It Happened
The Barons hosted the Thiel Tomcats yesterday afternoon and narrowly escaped to continue their undefeated and shutout streaks. The Barons were 13-1 against the Tomcats all0time going into the match. The last four contests were decided with a goal differential of 28-1. This year was a very different and electric Tomcat team.
Craig nabbed her fifth goal of the season to put the Barons up 1-0 early in regulation. The shot differential in the box score seems inconsistent with a narrow victory, but that is a testament to the Barons backline ability to recover. The Tomcats only tallied four shots all game, but the counterattack that Coach Miller stated was a threat tested the backline all game. The possession remained firmly in the Barons control for most of the game, but the Tomcats capitalized on any mistake made by the Barons and created several stressful moments.
Thankfully, the backline remained a wall and kept Giguere out of trouble. A team shutout well-deserved and the record streak grows to eight games in a row.
