How It HappenedÂ
Franciscan Men's Lacrosse' first home game was against a prestigious lacrosse program in Hanover. This is only the second time the Barons have the face Hanover. The first time in 2015 resulted in a difficult 1-28 loss for the Barons.Â
Yesterday's match showed off two very different styles. Hanover spread the field relying on their star player, and attempting to take advantage of a very young Franciscan defense. The old adage of bend but don't break applied yesterday afternoon. The Hanover attackers had their bouts of success, but the young defensive squad held on, and on the back of an incredible goal tending performance did just enough to fend off a late game surge by the opponents.Â
On the Franciscan side of the field, the attack was team-oriented. Well-timed movement in front of the net, screens, and crisp passing led to high quality attempts and an unreal shooting percentage. Oh right, and we also have a star. Joseph James tallied 11 points off eight goals and three assists. James has been at or near the top of scoring in the nation every season, and he is beginning his 2026 campaign just the same. His partner in crime, James Masso, is a nice addition as the chemistry between the two left heads of defensemen spinning. After Masso spent a season showing off his ability as a goalkeeper, he is now in his natural realm of scoring goals. The tandem are playing at a rate that should strike fear in opposing coaches.Â
The Barons were picked to finish high enough in the preseason polls to make the postseason for the first time in program history, and the performance yesterday has all fans alike excited for that opportunity.Â
Inside the NumbersÂ
- The Barons continue to pay their respects for the loss of their brother Luke Reimer. He was, and will continue to be, listed as a starter all season until his jersey his retired upon the conclusion of the 2026 campaign
