How It Happened
Franciscan hosted Mount Aloysius for a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. Both teams had played the day before, with the Mounties getting shut out by #21 Gettysburg. Their bats were active early, as they built a 4-1 lead after two innings. In the third, Lindia knocked in Bodie. Then, with two outs, Nemmers drove in a pair on a double to tie this one up at 4-4. Huhlein kept up the two-out magic with an RBI single to give the Barons their first lead of the afternoon.
The lead did not last long, as the Mounties tied it in the top of the fourth. Nemmers continued his great day at the plate with his third RBI of the day in the fifth to give Franciscan a 6-5 edge. Lindia added an insurance run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly, and that proved to be very valuable. Clifton shut the door in the ninth to earn his first career save, but allowed one run to give the Barons a 7-6 win.
At the Plate
- Nemmers drove in three.

How It Happened
Game two started a little different, as the Barons were able to get the lead in the first inning. They scored their first run without a hit, and did not get their first hit until Lindia hit a single in the third inning. After four innings, the game was tied at 2-2 with strong pitching from both teams.
Mount Aloysius scored two in the fifth and three in the sixth to take a 7-3 lead and firm control of this game. The Barons had other thoughts....
With runners at the corners and two outs,
Matteo Lindia came out to bat. He instantly was down 0-2, but he battled back to draw a walk.
John Nemmers then did the same thing to drive in one run on a walk after starting out down 0-2. Schiwall got hit by the pitch, and now the deficit was just two runs at 7-5. Linehan delivered a big swing next with a two-run single to tie it up at 7-7. Then a wild pitch scored the go-ahead run, and just like that, the Barons scored five runs with two outs to take a lead to the final frame.
Coach
Rick Carver went to
Josiah Bodie to close this game out. Bodie took care of business, but not without some more drama, as two runners got on base, but there was no doubt about it, as the Barons swept the Mounties back to Cresson.
At the Plate
- Lindia raised his average by 80 points on the afternoon from .406 to .486. That mark is second-best in the PAC.
- Linehan with 2-3 with three RBIs.
- The Barons had two sacrifice flies and stole three bases
On the Mound
- Zavier with a Z, pitched 2.2 innings while allowing one earned run.
-
Peter Schwindt and
Fletcher Bentley each allowed two earned runs.
-
John Cuva got the final out of the sixth and earned his first win.
- Bodie earned his first career save to extend the Barons' win streak to three games, and three different pitchers have earned the save in each win.
Up Next
The Barons return to PAC play over the weekend at Hiram. This will be the first time that the Barons and Terriers play each other in baseball. Hiram is new to the PAC this season, and they will enter Saturday with a 1-3 mark in PAC play, like the Barons.
