Barons Fall to New PAC Foe

Franciscan 5, Hiram 10 - 9 Innings

Franciscan Lineup
Nicholas Peffer SS, John Nemmers DH, Zachary Cook RF,  Josiah Bodie CF, Matteo Lindia LF, Colin Killian 1B, Aidan McKito C, Aodhan Linehan 3B, Holden Armstrong 2B, & Gavyn Romanyak P

How It Happened
Franciscan made the trek North to Hiram to take on the Terriers for the first time in program history. The home team took firm control of game one with eight runs over the first five innings and kept the Barons off the board.

The Barons got on the board in the sixth. A wild pitch scored the first run, and then Lindia knocked in Cook, and Killian, in his return, knocked in Bodie. That pulled the Barons to within five at 8-3. Snider hit a two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth to add on for the Terriers.

The Barons were able to score a run in the seventh and ninth, but a two-out rally in the final frame was not enough to overtake the Terriers.

At the Plate
- Lindia recorded his 6th multi-hit game of the season and extended his hit streak to seven games
- Cook was on base four times and picked up two more hits.
- 10 hits for Franciscan, all of them were singles

On the Mound
- Starter Romanyak took the loss while throwing four and two thirds of an inning.
- Evan Speicher pitched the final three and a third, matching his appearance at Waynesburg earlier this week for his longest of the season.
Franciscan 10, Hiram 12 - 9 Innings

Franciscan Lineup
Nicholas Peffer SS, Andrew Hunton LF, Zachary Cook RF,  Josiah Bodie CF, Matteo Lindia 1B, Kyle Schiwall C, David Kempf 3B, Ryan Huhlein 2B, Michael Manocchio DH, & Harold Gildehaus P

How It Happened
Game two started with a bomb, as Zachary Cook went yard in the first to give the Barons a 2-0 lead. Unfortunately, the Terriers answered with eight runs over the next four innings to take an 8-2 lead.

Bodie continued his strong day with an RBI hit in the fifth to cut into the deficit, but the Terriers added another pair of runs to hold a 10-3 lead.

In the sixth, Nicholas Peffer drove in a pair on a double. Hunton and Lindia each drove in a run, and the Barons pulled to within three with three innings left.

Once again, the Terriers added insurance with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 12-7 lead.

The Barons kept battling. Peffer went deep, a solo shot, in the seventh. The Barons added two more runs in the ninth but could not complete the comeback, as the Terriers won by two.

At the Plate
- Peffer had a four-hit game with a home run.
- Lindia and Cook each had two RBIs.
- The Barons had 15 hits and stole four bases.

On the Mound
- Gildehuas took the loss with just one earned run in his inning of work.
- Dax Clifton pitched one inning of relief.
- Jeremy Sagun went 3.2 innings with three strikeouts.
- Holden Armstrong pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless ball.

Up Next
The Barons will play one more PAC doubleheader before Easter break. They take on Saint Vincent on Tuesday in Latrobe, starting at 1:00 p.m. The Barons and Bearcats have split their doubleheaders in each of the last two seasons. In both of those Franciscan wins, the Barons scored 11 runs.
