How It HappenedÂ
The Barons vaunted attack line was held in check by the Wittenberg back line. Looking at the shot count, the attacks were even in the first half but lopsided in Wittenberg's favor in the second half. But, when you look at the restart opportunities Franciscan had a commanding advantage with 13-3 corner kicks and 15 fouls committed by hosts. Even though the Barons possessed equally with their opponents and had much more of the coveted restart opportunities, the defenders prevented any quality chances from amounting.Â
As is often the case in even matched or high-level play it just takes one possession or breakaway to win the game and that's exactly what happened last night. Wittenberg was able to pressure Mautone with seven shots in the second half and turned one of them into a game-winner.
By the Numbers
- Goduti led the team with three shots
-
Noah Haggerty came in and added the only Baron SOG
