Franciscan women's volleyball started its conference portion of the season Wednesday night at the Washington & Jefferson campus. The Barons swept the Presidents 3-0 to go 1-0 in conference play.
How It HappenedÂ
The first set was tight for most of the frame, with neither team having a lead larger than three through the first 33 points. started strong, jumping out to a 7-2 lead. Kills from
Logan Hickey,
Anna Guard, and
Sarah Clyde paced the Barons, who eventually built a 17-15 lead into a seven-point advantage. W&J scored four of the next six points, but a kill by Guard sealed the 25-19 set one win. During this set,
Kaitlan Hickey recorded her 1000th career dig.
In set two, the Barons scored five straight with kills by Clyde and
Logan Hickey to turn a 5-3 deficit to a 8-5 lead. W&J quickly tied it, before the visitors went on a 13-4 run to go up 22-13. The next six points were split evenly, leading to a 25-16 set win.Â
Set three had the first 20 points split 50/50, with Guard and
Logan Hickey providing points for Franciscan. There would be five more times in the set, with the Barons overcoming multiple deficits. Down 22-21, Franciscan scored four straight, with three kills by
Logan Hickey in that stretch, to seal the set win and match sweep.Â

- Franciscan had 47 assists, compared to W&J's 28.

Franciscan women's volleyball will play its Homecoming match Saturday at 1:30 PM against Wilmington College. As with all home games, it will be played at the Finnegan Fieldhouse.
