Cresson, PA - In Game two of the AMCC quadmatch, Franciscan comes out slow but battles late to lose in three games to Mount Aloysius.

How it Happened
  • Mount Aloysius controlled the set from start to finish. The Mounties recorded 10 kills and 4 service aces to go ahead to a commanding 25-5 set win.
  • Franciscan opened up set two on a better note as Renee Antonelli lead it off with a kill. The Lady Barons would be down early as the Mounties would be the first to fifteen and hold a 15-7 edge. Meghan Bayer and Marykate Taylor would respond with kills to tighten the game up to 15-10. Franciscan would cut the lead to two as Sidney Riley had a service ace to cut the lead to 22-20 Mounties, but Mount Aloysius would hold on the win 25-22.
  • The Lady Barons would jump to an early lead in set three with a 5-1 edge, behind a kill and ace by Renee Antonelli. The Mounties would fight back and tighten the game to 14-12 thanks to a couple kills by Ava Myers. A 4-0 run would give Franciscan their largest lead of the set as they led 18-12. Action tightened up as Franciscan held the lead at 23-20, but the Mounties would end the set on a 7-2 run behind two kills from AMCC kills leader Machala Gibbons.

  • Sydney Riley added 13 assists, her 14th game of the year with double digit assists.

Comments from Coach
"In the first set, we really struggled with serve receive, but the girls calmed down in the second set and started passing well, which lead into some really solid offense," commented Coach Hermann after the game. "Mt. Aloysius had some really good hitters and were able to start getting blocks and touches in the later games." "We didn't hit particularly well today, in spite of that we really battled to keep ourselves in the match."

Franciscan returns to AMCC action on Tuesday at home when they host Penn State Altoona at 7pm. Altoona currently sits at 4th place in the AMCC standings, a half game better than the Lady Barons.
