ALFRED, NY – The Franciscan men's soccer team opened Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action with a 2-0 win at new-conference opponent, Alfred State, Saturday afternoon.

The Short Story: The Barons scored a pair of late first half goals while holding off a second-half push from the Pioneers for their first conference win of the season.

th minute, sophomore
Nick Miller scored for the fifth-straight game as senior
Mark Fioramonti got a ball up to
Joe Muldoon from the end line. Muldoon one-touched it to Miller who finished in the with a long shot from the top of the box.
• Just over six minutes later, senior
Ian Baldau got his first goal of the year as he headed home a pass from freshman
Andrew James right in front of the net.
• Alfred State keeper Nico Coria made a stop of a shot from sophomore
Chris St. George to end the first half and the Barons led 2-0 at the break.
• Junior
Brian Gaughan made a save in the first 22 seconds of the second half to preserve his shutout to go with four more stops in the half.
• The Baron backline held off two Alfred State corner kicks in the final two minutes of action for the win.
Inside the Box Score
• Franciscan out-shot the Pioneers 21-10, including 11-7 on goal.
• Gaughan needed just seven saves in the contest for his third shutout of the season.
