COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Franciscan volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-1 matches to Oberlin and Capital at the Capital Invitational, Saturday.

The Short Story: The Lady Barons battled in two tough matches at the Capital Invitational. Franciscan pushed the second set against Oberlin to a 30-28 win to tie the match at 1-1 before dropping the next two sets. The Lady Barons won the first set against Capital, 25-17, before the Crusaders won the final three sets.
How it Happened - Oberlin
• Oberlin took control of the first set early as the Yeowomen worked a 24-9 lead. Franciscan held off an initial set point with a kill from sophomore
Renee Antonelli before Jaya Flynn-Young finished the set with a kill.
• With the second set tied at 24-24, the Lady Barons got their first set point at 25-24 thanks to a kill from Antonelli. The two teams went back and forth until Franciscan scored two-straight points at 29 and 30 thanks to a pair of Oberlin attack errors to win 30-28.
• Oberlin once again controlled the third set as they won 25-8 thanks to a 4-1 run at the end of the set.
• The fourth set was played much tighter as neither team led by more than four. Oberlin earned its first match point at 24-21, but Franciscan scored two-straight points to get within one, 24-23. The Yeowomen finished off the match with a kill from Iyanna Lewis.
How it Happened – Capital
• Franciscan came out strong in the first set against the Crusaders as the Lady Barons took an 11-10 lead and never relinquished the advantage. Franciscan went on the win the first set 25-17.
• Capital responded with a strong second set to tie the match at 1-1 after a 25-13 win.
• Franciscan earned its first set point at 24-17 in the third set, but Capital came back to tie the game at 24-24 with seven-straight points. Franciscan once again had set point at 25-24 and the two teams went back and forth until Capital closed out the set with three-straight points to win 29-27.
• After Capital took a 2-1 lead early in the set, the Crusaders did not surrender the lead despite a late push from the Lady Barons. Trailing 23-19, Franciscan scored a pair of points before two-straight from Capital handed the Crusaders the 25-21 win.

Meghan Bayer led the Lady Barons with 17 kills against Capital and earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

Emily Nutter finished the day with 41 assists and two service aces between the two matches.
• Marykate Taylor had 32 digs between the two matches, including 20 in the match against Capital.
