Franciscan Women's Lacrosse to Host Ave Maria

STEUBENVILLE, OH - The Lady Barons headed south last year for spring break, but this year they are staying at home. One of their opponents last year on spring break, Ave Maria, makes the trip up north to take on the Lady Barons, as each team is searching for their first win.

All-Time Series Against Ave Maria
  • The Lady Barons are 0-1 all-time against the Gyrenes with a matchup coming last season in Florida.
  • Franciscan had an early 2-1 lead in their previous meeting, with goals from Grace Deegan and Elizabeth McEntee in the early going.Ave Maria would score three goals in a row to take the lead and never let it go as they controlled this close game the rest of the way. Maureen Cain and Annie King each added a goal, and Grace Deegan ended with four goals, as the Lady Barons fell 11-7. 
Scouting Franciscan
  • Through one game, Grace Deegan is leading the Lady Barons with two goals. One goal being a free position goal. 
  • Maria Hilkert also has two points, to share the team lead, as she scored one goal and assisted on another in the loss to Heidelberg.
  • The Lady Barons had 38 turnovers in their season opener, the most since they had 39 against Ohio Northern in 2017.
 Scouting Ave Maria
  • The Gyrenes are 0-3, but do not let that fool you, as they have had a very tough schedule. They have lost to #1 (in NAIA) SCAD-Savannah and #5 Reinhardt (GA) in their first two games this season. They are preparing for a very strong conference schedule, which has the preseason #3, #4, #8 & #9 teams in the nation.
  • Junior Aiyanah Simms is leading the attack this season thus far, as she has 10 goals including two four goal games already this season. 
  • Sophomore Emma Davis is second on the team with seven goals and eight points. Davis and Simms combine for 18 of the Gyrenes 23 points this season.
