How It Happened
The Franciscan Men's Soccer team used an offensive explosion to defeat Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Thiel by a score of 6-3.
It did not take long for the Barons offense to get on the scoreboard. In the third minute, Nick Miller found Liam Nagle on a set piece, and Nagle headed home the games first goal. Four minutes later the Tomcats would commit a foul in the box, earning a penalty kick opportunity for the Barons. JP Bobak set up and buried the penalty shot into the back of the net, giving Franciscan a 2-0 lead. Thiel made some defensive adjustments, slowing the Barons offense temporarily. In the 39th minute, Jair Mautone made an excellent run, sprinting deep into Thiel's end of the field and found Sebastian Koehler for the Barons third goal of the game. Franciscan held a 3-0 lead heading into the half.
Franciscan continued to roll, striking early in the second half when Koehler found an open Mikey Irvin who finished the shot, putting Franciscan ahead 4-0. The Tomcats scored two goals, putting pressure on the Barons to respond. Koehler would scoring his second goal of the game in the 61st minute. Koehler completed his hat trick in the 66th minute, when JP Bobak found him on a cross into the box. Thiel would score one last goal in the 87th minute, but the Barons held on for a 6-3 victory.
