How It HappenedÂ
Just like the Women's soccer teams last night, after 110 minutes of play, Washington & Jefferson and Franciscan played to a 1-1 tie.
Each team would register seven shots in the first half, but Washington and Jefferson was the only team able to find the back of the net. Jayden Da was able to score a goal in the 35th minute to give the Presidents a 1-0 lead. Franciscan was able consistent pressure, as they would have six of their seven shots on goal, but they would not be able to score a goal in the first half.
Jair Mautone was able to break through in the 64th minute with his first goal of the season, as he would beat the goalkeeper to the lower left corner. It would be his first goal of the season. Each team was able to get a couple more good looks down the stretch, but both goalies held strong with five saves a piece in the second half.Â
In the first overtime, the game was mostly battled in the midfield, as neither team was able to register a shot. Each team was able to get some good looks in the final 10 minute period, the second overtime. Sebastian Koehler, PAC Offensive Player of the Week, gained a step on his man, and fired a shot that narrowly missed wide right halfway through the second overtime. Mikey Irvin also added a shot that was saved by the goalkeeper, but neither team could register the sought after second goal.Â
Inside the NumbersÂ
- Jair Mautone scored the lone goal for Franciscan.
- Mikey Irvin took a team high six shots with five being on goal.
- Franciscan had 13 shots on goal compared to Washington & Jefferson's seven.Â
- Each team had two yellow cards on the night.Â
Who's Next?Â
The Men's Soccer team will be back in action on Saturday at Grove City. The Barons are 1-2 all-time against the Wolverines, with the lone win coming in 2008. Their last matchup was in 2017, with Grove City coming out victorious, by a score of 2-1. Grove City is currently in the top four of the PAC standings, and Franciscan is on the outside looking in, so this is a huge game for Franciscan if they want to get a birth in the PAC Tournament.Â
