How It HappenedÂ
Franciscan Men's Soccer faced USCAA opponent Christendom for a home opener. The Barons were excited to finally get their first home game, and the energy in their play showed it. Two minutes into the game Sebastian Koehler snuck one in, and the Barons went up 1-0. The excitement of an early goal opened up the floodgates, as the Barons put up three more goals in the next five minutes. Koehler got his second goal of the evening off a great pass by Joseph St. George putting the Barons up 2-0. The third goal was a rocket from the top of the penalty arc, set up by Mikey Irvin. Josh Kyle had a solo goal to put the Barons up 4-0. In the 19 minute, Koehler weaved through the penalty box, then found Jonathan Schriner who put the Barons up to 5 goals for the half. Late in the first half, Christendom found the energy they needed from their forwards. The Crusaders were able to get a couple good pushes up field, and a goal off a rebound from LaRochelle and a goal from Robertson gave them two goals before halftime. At halftime the score was 5-2 Barons.Â
Second half the Crusaders found the ability to control the ball better than the first half, and they increased their time on attack from the first half. Franciscan Barons Sebastian Koehler was having too good of a day to let that stop him though. Mikey Irvin sent a cross from the right side and Koehler elevated himself above the defender to head the ball in over the goalkeeper. This put the Barons up 6-2 and gave Koehler a hat-trick on the day. The Crusaders held off the Barons attack for the next 35 minutes, and prevented any further scoring. The Barons take their home opener under new Head Coach Brent Ridenour 6-2.
