How It Happened
Franciscan Men's Soccer opened their season three days later than expected after their home game with Penn State Altoona was postponed due to flooding on Wednesday. The Barons would open their season Saturday night against Baldwin Wallace in Erie, Pa. in Penn State Behrend's HLM Tournament. Franciscan fell 1-0 to Baldwin Wallace on a lone second half goal.

Baldwin Wallace came out strong in the first half spending a large amount of time on the attack and getting three shots on goal in the first 10 minutes. Franciscan fought back and spent a majority of the minutes before halftime on the attack. Nick Miller had two great corner kicks, Jonathan Schriner attempted a shot that went wide, and Mikey Irvin put a shot on goal with five minutes remaining in the half. Baldwin Wallace' defense stood tall and the game entered halftime 0-0.

In the second half, Nick Miller beat his defender and had a clear look at the net 22yds out at the top of the penalty circle, but the shot went high. Nine minutes into the second half, Kieres of Baldwin Wallace was able to get the ball past Jax Mautone and the Yellow Jackets went up 1-0. Jax Mautone was busy in the second half seeing a total of eight shots, three saves, and only allowing one goal (Kieres). Jax finished the night with nine saves. In the final minutes, Franciscan made some aggressive strikes downfield to try and tie the game, but were unsuccessful, and the game ended 1-0.

Inside the Numbers
-This was the first meeting between these two teams
-Jax Mautone's nine saves, nearly doubled his previous game-high of five at Waynesburg last season.
-Jonathan Schriner's shot was his first shot of his collegiate career.
- The Yellow Jackets outshot the Barons 16-3.
- 20 different Barons saw playing time in Head Coach Brent Ridenour's Franciscan debut.

Who's Next?
The Barons are back after it tomorrow in the consolation game against Morrisville State. This will be the first time these two teams have played each other since 2008. That game was also at a neutral site, as it was also in a season-opening tournament. The Mustangs won 3-0 that day in 2008 over the Barons, then in their second year of NCAA competition. Morrisville State lost to Penn State Behrend earlier on Saturday by a score of 6-0 to end up in the consolation game.
