How It HappenedÂ
The Barons hosted the Saint Vincent Bearcats for their last home regular season match. The Barons came into last night's contest in second place and right at the heels of Grove City. The decisive 2-0 victory keeps them on pace with the Wolverines and a chance at clinching home field advantage.Â
The first strike came from Jonathan Schriner who has had back-to-back games with goals. His goal came after 30 minutes of relentless offensive attack. The Barons gave up only two SOG up to that point. The 1-0 lead allowed the Barons to lean into their defensive strengths. They allowed only one more SOG for rest of the game.
In the second half the Barons struck early off a Nick Miller PK. The Barons cycled through their bench and ensured all of their seniors had a chance to get out on the field for one last regular season home game. Thankfully last night's win all but ensures the Barons host a playoff game in two weeks.
Inside the Numbers Â
-Jax Mautone has 6 shutouts on the season placing him 2nd in the conference
-Jonathan Schriner's goal is his 6th of the season
-Nick Miller's PK goal makes him 13-15 lifetime on Penalty Kicks
-Augustine Rubino's assist is the first of his career
Who's Next?Â
Franciscan will end the PAC regular season with three straight road games. Their next test will be at Geneva on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. The Barons are 3-11-1 all-time against the Golden Tornadoes, but they defeated them last season by a score of 1-0. JP Bobak netted the lone goal in the 71st minute to give the Barons a huge win last year. Geneva is having another good season, as they have worked their way into the top half of the league standings which are tightening up more and more as each week goes by.
