How It Happened
Franciscan's baseball showed a lot of resilience today, as they battled back from an 8-2 deficit to win 9-8 in extra innings.

The Barons would get on the board first in the bottom of the second. With two outs, Daniel Halsey would deliver a single before Aidan Hickey ripped a shot in the right-center gap to score Halsey from first. The Fighting Muskies would answer in the top of the third with a three run inning to take the lead. In the home half of the third, the Barons would load the bases up with Scavnicky and Maynard getting singles, and Burke hit by pitch. Daniel Halsey would deliver a hot shot to the third baseman that would score Scavnicky and set the score at 3-2.

The Fighting Muskie would strike once again in the top of the fourth inning, as they got to Franciscan starter Patrick Wallace for five runs. The Barons would respond with a crooked number of their own in the bottom of the sixth inning. Halsey led off the inning with a single, and then an error by the third baseman would allow Anselmino aboard. Ferroni then delivered a single that would load the bases with one out. Patrick Wallace delivered a one RBI single to opposite field, and then Ryan Scavnicky would do the same. Michael Maynard would put a charge into one to deep center that would score Ferroni from third.

The Barons would get some more two out magic in the seventh inning, as Hickey would draw a two out walk. Anselmino walked as well before Ferroni delivered another clutch single to score Hickey from second to set the score at 8-6. Franciscan was held scoreless in the eighth, so it would come down to the bottom of the ninth with an 8-6 game, as the bullpen hed the Fighting Muskies scoreless since the fourth inning.

Kyle Ferrance led the ninth off with a single, and Daniel Halsey did the same to give Franciscan a dream start to the inning. Aidan Hickey was able to bunt them both over into scoring position for Ryan Anselmino. He delivered a deep shot to center that was caught, but it was deep enough to score Ferrance from third. A wild pitch would move Halsey to third before David Ferroni delivered a swinging bunt to third that scored Halsey to tie it up at 9-9, and we were off to extra innings.

In extra innings, Ryan Neely got into quite the jam with a leadoff double and walk, but pulled a Houdini act by getting the next three batters out without allowing a run. The Barons opened up the bottom of the 10th with a strikeout, and then Maynard reached base on a hit by pitch. Brendan Burke would step the plate, looking for his first hit of the day, and he delivered a deep shot to the right field gap. Head Coach Rick Carver would hold Maynard at third, despite the majority of the team halfway out of the dugout ready to celebrate. Muskingum would then intentionally walk Ferrance to give them a force out at any base. Daniel Halsey would then hit a grounder to the third baseman, who was able to get the lead runner out at home. That would bring up Ferroni for another pressure at bat. The Muskingum pitcher would have one get away, and Burke would charge home to score easy for a Barons win. The team would mob Burke at home, as celebration ensued, as the Barons head into PAC play on a high note.
