How It Happened
The Barons traveled to Latrobe for a nine inning battle against the Bearcats on Tuesday afternoon. It was quite the offensive battle with five home runs hit and 22 combined runs scored.
Brendan Burke led the way for the Barons with three home runs and eight RBIs on the day, both of which are team records for a single game performance.Â
Franciscan would get on the board first in the top of the first, as
Michael Maynard drove in
David Ferroni on an RBI single to center field. The Bearcats responded with a big seven run inning in the bottom of the first. Three of the runs though were unearned for
Jacob Whitmore, as the Barons had a three errors. Franciscan would hit the first home run of the game in the bottom of the second, as
Aidan Hickey hit his first of the season. Perroz hit a two-run shot in the home half of the second to add to the Bearcats lead, as they led 9-2.Â
In the top of the third,
Ryan Scavnicky would lead off the inning with a walk.
Patrick Wallace would rip a single, and then
David Ferroni reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases full. After
Michael Maynard struck out,
Brendan Burke would come to the plate with one out. He delivered a deep home run to center field which cleared the bases for his first grand slam of his career. The Bearcats would hit their second home run of the day in the seventh, as Dailey hit a solo shot off of
Brody Hynes. That would be the only run Hynes would allow, as he provided four strong innings of relief.Â
Burke's day would not be over, as he he put another charge into one in the eighth. It would be a solo shot to left center that would pull Franciscan to within three at 10-7. The Bearcats would tack on a pair of run in the bottom of the eighth to give them a five run lead, as we headed to the ninth. With two outs in the ninth,
Brendan Burke would deliver his third home run of the day with a pair of runners aboard to cut the lead to 12-10. That would be it for the Barons, as Klement came in to pitch for the Bearcats and get the one out save. Â

Up Next
Franciscan returns to Steubenville tomorrow for a doubleheader against Saint Vincent with the first game starting at 2:00 pm. The Barons were 2-1 against the Bearcats in regular season conference play last season, but they then fell to them in the PAC Tournament to end their season. Franciscan is currently in the bottom half of the league, so a pair of wins Wednesday would help tremendously in a strong second half push.Â
