How It Happened
Franciscan baseball finally got to host Waynesburg for the final two games of their three-game conference series on Thursday afternoon. The Barons would get back to their winning ways behind a great start from
Jacob Watson.Â
The Yellow Jackets would strike first in the first with a solo homer to left field after two strikeouts by Watson. The Barons would have some two-out offense of their own in the home half of the inning.
Andrew Normandin stepped up with runners on the corners and two outs. He delivered a single to right that score
Patrick Wallace, who drew a walk earlier in the inning.
Daniel Halsey then hit a chopper to the shortstop that he would beat out to score
Michael Maynard and give Franciscan a 2-1 lead. The Barons would add another run in the second.
David Ferroni would double in
Patrick Wallace on a deep ball to the right-center gap.Â
Watson would then be in total control of this one, as he would not allow a hit until the seventh inning. After allowing a couple of hits and a run, Head Coach
Rick Carver would go to
Ryan Neely. He would ge the finals outs to give Franciscan a win in game one.Â
At the Plate

David Ferroni was the lone Baron with two hits, one of which was a double.

Michael Maynard had the only other Franciscan extra-base hit with a double as well.Â

On the Mound

Jacob Watson earned his 5th win of the season, setting a new season record in Franciscan history.
- Watson pitched 6.1 innings with seven strikeouts and no walks.
- Neely earned the save by getting the final two outs.

How It Happened
Game two was the complete opposite of the first one, as 31 runs were scored. Franciscan would come out on top, as they exploded for 12 runs in one inning in route to scoring three touchdowns in the win.
It was not looking good for Franciscan in the early goings of this one, as the Yellow Jackets would chase
Jacob Whitmore out of this one in the second inning. He would allow six runs to give them the early 6-0 edge. The Barons responded in a big way in the bottom of the inning with 12 runs on six hits. They would capitalize on a lack of command by Waynesburg, as they drew five walks and hit by pitch once all in this inning.
Patrick Wallace had four RBIs in this inning with three coming on abases clearing double. An amazing seven runs came with two outs, as Franciscan kept the inning going and going until they had a 12-6 lead.Â
The Barons would not be done offensively, as they put up a crooked number in the fifth inning.
Daniel Halsey drove in
Andrew Normandin and
Brendan Burke on single to left field.
Dylan Robb would help add two more when he hit a mammoth homer to left field that just snuck in right of the foul pole. In the seventh,
Aidan Hickey delivered a dinger to right field, his second of the season to plate two more runs.
Anthony Franzonello would reach base on an error later on in the seventh, which would score
Patrick Wallace to give Franciscan 21 runs. The bullpen would combine for eight innings of effective work to close this one at, as Franciscan completed the three-game season sweep of the Yellow Jackets.Â

Up Next
Franciscan will host the defending PAC Champions, Washington & Jefferson, on Saturday afternoon at Vaccaro Field. Game one will start at 1:00 p.m. which it is scheduled for seven innings with game two to follow and it being nine innings. The Presidents are perfect through 16 games in PAC play, as they sit atop the standings once again this season.Â

Franciscan University Athletics is partnering with Steubenville Conferences to offer summer sports camps in conjunction with the Steubenville Main Campus 1 (June 9-12th, 2022) and 3 (June 23-26th, 2022). Youth Conferences. Participants will be able to strengthen both their athletic skills and their relationship with Christ in this uniquely Franciscan hybrid experience.
