How It Happened
Franciscan baseball traveled to Chatham for back to back night games after playing Bethany at home last night. The Barons snapped their four game losing streak with a big win against the Cougars.
The Barons got on the board first, in the first. With one out
Ryan Scavnicky and
Michael Maynard each got on base with singles. That gave RBI-leader
Brendan Burke a great opportunity, and he delivered with an RBI single up the middle that score Scavnicky. The Cougars would score a pair of runs in the third, They would score on a wild pitch, and an error by
Dylan Robb, but they were able to cut the damage to just two runs.Â
Franciscan responded with clean defense and sound pitching the rest of the way. The Barons added three runs in the fifth to take the lead.
Michael Maynard was able to drive in Franzonello and Scavnicky on his second hit of the day. Later in the inning with two out,
Jacob Watson singled in
Brendan Burke, who got into scoring position on a stolen base. Maynard would keep up the strong day with a two run single in the next inning that scored Franzonello and Ferrnoni to give Franciscan a 6-2 edge.
Daniel Halsey,
Patrick Wallace, and
Ryan Neely combined to pitch a scoreless final six innings to shutdown the Cougars and take home a much-needed win.

Up Next
Franciscan will return home to take on Geneva on Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. These teams are both looking to make a late season push to climb into the top half of the league. Last season Franciscan swept Geneva in the three PAC matchups and lost the non-conference matchup. Hopefully the Barons can keep up their recent success against the Golden Tornadoes this weekend.Â
