How It Happened
Franciscan traveled to Latrobe, Pa. to face PAC opponent St. Vincent College Bearcats. Bearcat's pitching was strong right off the bat. Baron hitters struggled to get on base. Jenny Massey had a chance in the 3rd inning with a deep double to center field. Elizabeth Gibson was the next batter and hit a grounder at the third baseman. Massey stood in the leadoff position waiting for the third baseman to throw to first. As soon as the ball left her hand Massey took off. Bearcat's Ginter turned the play after getting Gibson out at first. Massey made a head first slide at third, but was tagged out in a very close call. The double play retired the inning and the Barons best shot at scoring a run.

How It Happened
In the first game today's doubleheader, the Barons struggled offensively. In the second game they got off to a great start. Kimberly McDaniels hit a single to the SS and beat out the throw to first. Jenny Massey hit another double for the day, and McDaniels advanced all the way to home scoring the Barons first run for the day. Chloe Cross hit another double to left field and Massey scored from second. Rachel Cooper hit a sac bunt to advance Cross to third, but Cross was left on base. The defense allowed only 2 hits and no runs, so at the end of the first inning the Barons were leading 2-0.
The lead extended to 3 in the third inning. Jenny Massey hit a single up the middle. Elizabeth Gibson followed up with a single down the left field line. Then Chloe Cross reached base on a fielder's choice scoring Massey.
The tides changed in the fourth inning. At the end of the third, the Barons were leading 3-2. Kimberly McDaniels hit a single to right center scoring Felicia MacGillivray and Ariana Arnone. In the bottom of the fourth St. Vincent went on a scoring run. 2 errors put the Barons in a tough position to get out of, and the Bearcats capitalized.
The Barons managed one more run in the fifth inning. Lily Wahl singled to center scoring Ariana Arnone. St. Vincent scored 3 more runs in the bottom of the sixth before the game ended in the sixth.

Up Next
Franciscan will head to Washington & Jefferson on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. The Lady Barons are 2-2 all-time against the Presidents with a pair of losses in their PAC debut last season. the Presidents have struggled as of late though, as they hold a below .500 record including an 0-2 conference record. If weather permits, we should have a pair of good games on Saturday.
