How It Happened
After a series of rain outs and postponement, it was only fitting that this game would have a rain delay as well. Start of the game was delayed about 45 minutes, but once the game got underway it would be a quick one.Â
The Wolverines would score a pair in the first inning after a leadoff double. That would prove to be enough offense, as their freshman pitched Umland was very efficient through eight innings of work. He struck out seven while holding the Barons scoreless and walking none. Grove City went to the bullpen in the ninth after they had built a 5-0 lead.
Michael Maynard ripped a triple to the right-center gap, and then
Brendan Burke would double him in later in the inning. Hopefully the Barons can bring that spark and extra-base hits in tomorrow's doubleheader.Â
At the Plate
- Burke tallied his 20th RBI of the season.
-
Michael Maynard is the 6th different Baron batter to hit a three-bagger this season.
- The 1-2-3 hitters for the Wolverines each had an RBI.
On the Mound Â
- Starter
Jacob Watson had a quality start with seven innings pitched and two earned runs.
- He struck out three while allowing seven hits.
-
Samuel Tyler pitched the final two innings with a strikeout and an earned run.Â
