How It HappenedÂ
The Barons traveled on the road to face the Mount Union Purple Raiders from the OAC for the first time in program history. The Barons jumped out to an early lead with a goal from Jonathan Schriner assisted by Mikey Irvin 12 minutes into the game. Less than 10 minutes later the Raiders answered with 2 goals in under a minute. Down 2-1 the Barons had 3 corner kicks before halftime. Corner kicks for the Barons are an incredible scoring opportunity. The combination of Nick Miller crossing with big athletes like Jonathan Schriner, Zachary Muldoon, and Liam Nagle in front of the net make defending the play a defensive nightmare. The Raiders defended, held on, and went into halftime up 2-1.
The first real action in the second half was a yellow card for Nick Miller. This gave the Raiders the chance to shift into the attacking end, and 70 seconds later scored to go up 3-1. At this point there was still 40 minutes of clock left plenty of time to carefully knock away at the lead. In the 60th minute Ryan Miller joined his brother on the tally sheet grabbing a yellow card of his own. The battle for ball control between teams slowly tilted toward the Barons favor. Benjamin James got a shot off, but was high right of the goal. Just one minute after that, Nick Miller drew a foul and was awarded a penalty kick that he capitalized on bringing the Barons within one. From this point on the Raiders sunk in on defense and only took one more shot for the rest of the game. James found a lane and took a second shot this time missing far left. With only 2 minutes remaining, Ryan Miller made 3rd times a charm. He found a shooting lane to beat the goalkeeper and tie the game up. The second half comeback was a testament of maturity and grit for a team mixed with veterans and highly touted underclassmen. Thanks to the freshmen the Barons remain undefeated with only one non-conference game remaining before PAC play begins.Â
