How It HappenedÂ
The Barons went on the road to face the incredibly difficult Wolverine men's soccer team, and early misfortune put them in a deficit that was too much to overcome on a disciplined team.Â
Lucas Cross fouled a Wolverine shortly after a corner kick in side the box. Wolverines' Eck took the resulting PK and converted to put the Barons down 0-1.
Just a few moments later Mautone was beat and the Barons found themselves down two in the first 20 minutes.Â
The Barons only attempted two shots the remainder of the half while the Wolverines tacked on one last goal before halftime to go up 3-0 at half.
Early in the second half, Lucas Cross capitalized off a yellow card restart to give the Barons their only goal on the evening. Facing a big lead late in the second, it's very difficult to beat a prevent defense twice to tie the game. Once again, the Barons only attempted two more shots after the Cross goal.
Inside the Numbers Â
-The Barons took a total of 6 shots with 2 on net
-Mautone had 2 saves
-St. George recorded his 4th assist on the year
-Cross now has 6 goals on the year
Who's Next?Â
Franciscan will play back to back road games, as they travel to Thiel on Tuesday evening. The Barons hold a 7-2-2 record against the Tomcats all-time, including wins in their last three matchups. In those three wins, the Barons have scored five goal a game on average. Last season, it was a back and forth battle with a final score of 4-3. Jonathan Schriner would score the game-winner for Franciscan in the second half.Â
