How It HappenedÂ
In a matchup between two of the top teams in the PAC, the Barons came out on top last night by a score of 3-2. Franciscan beat Grove City for the first time in a conference match and the first time since 2008. With the win, the Barons clinch a spot in the PAC Championship Tournament and sit atop the standings with 19 points (6-0-1).
The Barons struck early with goals from
Lucas Cross and
Jonathan Schriner to set the tone. Grove City answered with one goal in the opening to half to give us a 2-1 score at the break.
Ryan Miller put the Barons on the board with a great goal from just inside the box in the 69th minute. That goal was needed, as the Wolverines netted a second goal with a little more than two minutes left to play, but the Barons would shut them down the rest of the way to secure victory.Â
Inside the Numbers Â
-Cross tallied his 15th goal of the season, which is 4th most in all of Division III.
-
Ryan Miller netted his seventh of the season and third goal that was not a penalty kick.
- Schriner scored his 23rd goal of his career.
- Miller had six saves to pickup his 10th win of the season.
Who's Next?
Franciscan will finish the regular season with three consecutive away contests. The first of those will be this Saturday at Waynesburg at 8:00 p.m. The Barons have played well against the Yellow Jackets over the years, as they hold an 11-5 record dating back to 2007. Franciscan has been able to win the nine games as well. Last season,
Joseph St. George netted a pair of goals in a dominant 4-0 win over the Yellow Jackets
