How It Happened
The Yellow Jacket offense is the only team in the PAC that has rivaled Franciscan's. The Barons have scored 26 goals against PAC opponents compared to Waynesburg's 22. No other team in the PAC has eclipsed 20 goals. However, with the Barons missing their top goal scorer the game became a stalemate rather than the shootout you would expect. In the first half each team mustered just a couple shots on goal and the score was zeros all going into the half.
With so much on the line for both teams, Barons #1 seed and Waynesburg trying to hold onto a playoff spot, tensions rose second half. Freeman scored the Barons only goal in the 73'. That one goal lead immediately ignited emotions with both Freeman and Waynesburg's bench being handed yellow cards. Waynesburg was given another yellow card a few minutes later just before they tied the game one-all in the 80'. With under ten minutes remaining in play it was going to be tough for either team to garner a scoring chance. The Barons best chance was a corner kick opportunity in the 84', but no shot was registered. Actually, neither team registered a shot for the remaining time.
The Barons are sitting atop the PAC with only a few games remaining in the regular season. However, the tie Saturday is threatening their hold of the top seed with the quarterfinal bye and guaranteed home field advantage through the playoffs that comes with it. The Barons have two games remaining including Geneva who is right on their heels at the #2 spot. With Grove City and Geneva having three games remaining, the tie means that Barons could fall to third place. All roads seem to lead to the final game at Geneva to be the battle for first place and likely a championship game preview.
Inside the Numbers
-Freeman's goal is his 7th on the year

Who's Next?
Franciscan continues PAC play at Allegheny on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The Barons are 1-0-1 all-time against the newest PAC member. Last season the Barons beat the Gators 2-0.
Lucas Cross scored in the opening minute, and
Julien Freeman added another first half goal in the victory.
Aiden Miller recorded five saves in the shutout. Allegheny has had an up and down season but are hovering on a PAC Championship bid, as they sit in sixth at the moment.
